| UNMC to launch ‘stand up-speak out’ campaign | | ‘To fight against eradication of poverty, work for empowerment of women’ | | Early times reporter Jammu | Oct 15 The Art of Living and United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC) have launched a joint initiative that will see over 4 million people across the globe to support UMNC ’s ‘stand up- speak out’ against poverty and work for eradication of poverty, hunger, achievement of primary education worldwide, promotion of gender equality, empowerment for women, reduction of child mortality, improvement of maternal health, and to fight against HIV/AIDs , malaria and other killer diseases. Unfolding the plans at a press conference here today, Bharat B Phull, Coordinator for Art of Living in J&K said the organization proposes to hold several public events under ‘Stand up-speak out’ campaign in over 100 countries from Wednesday for people people from all walks of life to come together and take a pledge in support of eradication of extreme poverty and to ensure achievements of Million Development Goals (MDGs) by the world community. He said in all stand up events, the participants will take pledge to defeat extreme poverty adding that the idea behind this campaign is to remind world leaders of their promise of achieving the MDG by 2015 and urge them to show the necessary political will He said the stand up event would also be held all over the world from the busiest square in the world, New York’s Times Square to the small school in the Tsunami struck Ache province in Indonesia .. Rajan Salalia another activists of Art of Living said, in Jammu province a total of over 100 events have been planned in different schools/ colleges/institutions stretching from Jammu city to remotest areas of Kathua and Udhampur. The main event in Jammu has been planned in the form of ‘Human Chain’ over the pedestrian path on the Tawi Bridge stretching from Vikarm Chowk to Dogra Chowk. Sanjay Dhar, Heemu and Prabha were among others present. |
