| Follow up unlikely on Kundal report | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 15 The BR Kundal committee of investigations which probed the alleged bungling and misappropriations in Forest department is most unlikely to see implementation of its recommendations except ceremonial action against a couple of officers. The Committee constituted by the Chief Minister after withdrawal of Forest portfolio from Peoples Democratic Party's Qazi Mohammad Afazal has since submitted its report to the Chief Minister. Not only this, the contents of the report and its recommendations have already gone to the public domain through its knowledge in the press. any action on follow up to the Kundal committee report is being seen as a last nail in the already soaring relations between the coalition partners. Even though the sources said that the Chief Minister is examining the report but an action is unlikely in the present circumstances. Kunal Committee report has clearly indicted a senior cabinet minister of the Peoples Democratic Party of being a party to the creation of artificial scarcity of timber in the state in a bid to accord benefit to some foreign firms for import. The report has made almost clear that the said Minister had due knowledge of the fact the Managing Director of the State Forest Corporation is an American Citizen and is enjoying the present position through illegal means. If the Chief Minister proposes an action on the report, a senior minister of the PDP may have to face the wrath which has all potential of rocking the coalition boat. However, in case no patch up works between the coalition partners, the Chief Minister may make the report public which can damage the reputation of the Peoples Democratic Party. Meanwhile, commenting on the silence of government on Kundal Committee report, the provincial president of the National Conference Ajay Sadhotra today alleged that the claim of the present dispensation headed by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to weed out corruption from the state stands nowhere. The so called claim and paper efforts made are falling flat on ground and with all these claims the state of the J&K stands at No. 2 position in corruption in the country, is a matter of shame for us". He said it is afraid that if things keep going like this the day is not far when the state of Jammu & Kashmir will be at No. 1 position in corruption which he said is a matter of great concern. He called upon the people to rise to the occasion and weed out the present dispensation who is only giving bad name to the sate. Sadhotra questioned that if the regime is committed to weed out corruption at all levels of hierarchy then why the government is not bring the BR Kundal Committee Report before the people of the state which affirm involvement of various Officers including the Minister. He said this owes explanation to the people. He asked the government to place the said report before the masses. Provincial President said that time is not far when the present regime will fall on its own weight of corruption, mis-governance, callousness and in-humane treatment with the people. |
