Jammu | Oct 16
Strongly flaying the discriminatory treatment doled out to Jammu region in the matter of allotment of funds for tourism promotion, former Minister and JKNPP MLA, Harshdev Singh has said that the Centre, at the behest of the state government, sanctioned a package of Rs.50 crore for promotion of tourism in the state, but regretted that districts of Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, as also the newly created districts of Samba, Reasi and Ramban, have been completely ignored as no funds have been provided in these districts adding that only a meager amount of Rs.2.83 crore has been allocated to Patnitop Development Authority.
Criticizing such a callous approach towards the tourist spots of Jammu region, Harshdev observed that this indicated that ‘the present government has totally surrendered before the Kashmiri leadership and was least bothered about Jammu region’.
Alleging that ‘blatant disregard of tourist places in Jammu region has become a perpetual feature’, he said that ‘while Kashmir got Rs.22 crore package for tourism promotion, Jammu was given just Rs.14 crore and likewise under the PM’s package Rs.1.20 crore was released for development of three tourist villages in Kashmir Valley namely Gangangir, Pahalgam and Drung and only two village of Jammu region Surinsar and Jhiri were allocated just Rs.50 lakhs.’
Accusing the government for its biased and hostile treatment to Jammu tourism, the JKNPP MLA ‘warned the government not to under-evaluate the people of this region’, who played a major role in the formation of the present government and appealed the masses ‘to rise to the occasion and dislodge the present government in the next elections’ for what it called ‘crossing all limits of regional bias and non-performance’.
