| With wearing President’s mantle Musharraf likely to hasten pace of India-Pakistan dialogue:APHC | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | October 16 The leadership of All Party Hurriyat Conference(APHC) is hopeful that after Gen.Parvez Musharraf assumes the office of President of Pakistan, minus his Army uniform, within next one week the ongoing Delhi-Islamabad talks may pick up the speed. During the last three months the bilateral parleys had almost been suspended owing to internal crisis in Pakistan. According to APHC leader,Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat,Gen. Parvez Musharraf, has shown greater flexibility than his predecessors in resolving the Kashmir issue and other problems through sustained dialogue. He said that after Parvez Musharraf wore the President’s mantle, once the court heard the petitions against him,he would pick up the thread of the parleys that had remained motionless. Prof. Bhat said that both Delhi and Islamabad have by now realized that dialogue was the only medium for settling the Kashmir issue. In reply to a question he said that Delhi has no other alternative but to resume talks with the Hurriyat leadership. He said “even if talks are held three weeks or three months later they have to be held and we are prepared to meet the Prime Minister,Dr Manmohan Singh whenever he is free to discuss the issues with us.” In reply to another question the APHC leader said that “those who are dubbing us as Indian agents were simply trying to cover their failure in helping Delhi and Islamabad in settling bilateral problems including the one connected with the Kashmir issue.”He said that Dr Manmohan Singh “is a sincere politician but he is being misled by a group of bureaucrats”adding that had he received their support “much progress in Delhi-Hurriyat talks would be achieved by now.” |
