| Infiltration touches zero level in areas under 16 corps: Army | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 17 The Army authorities today claimed that as a result of fencing of the LOC and installation of highly sophisticated gadgets the level of infiltration from across the border in the area under 16 corps has registered a marked decline.”It is almost zero level infiltration,”said Lt. Gen.T.K.Saproo,GOC 16 corps. Gen. Sapru said that the latest gadgets installed near the fencing has allowed ample scope to the border guards for monitoring the movement of infiltrators and during the last 10 months only 17 ingress bids were reported which had been foiled. He said that militants had failed to motivate youths for joining the rebel groups because all the financial channels had been choked.Claiming that militants operating in the area under 16 corps were not receiving funds from across the border after the channels had been sealed and consequently there was dismay in the rebel camps. The Army authorities made it clear that the mobile communication system,in operation in 16 corps, had proved very helpful in getting specific information about the plans and hideouts of militants. This had made anti-insurgency operations result oriented. Gen. Sapru, who is taking over as GOC Western Command next month, said that for operation Sadbhavana the 16 corps would receive Rs.15 crores to Rs.16 crores annually for carrying out various development works, including building of roads, schools, micro hydel projects and for providing medical aid to the people in the border areas. He,however, expressed dissatisfaction over the delay on the part of the state Government in taking over the projects which the Army had built under operation Sadhbhavana. He said that “we do not get funds for running or maintaining these projects.” |
