| Hawala racketeer arrested, Rs 4 lakh seized: Police | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 17 Jammu and Kashmir police today claimed to have arrested a Hawala racketeer and recovered Rs 4 lakh from his possession, when the accused was on his way to deliver it to Lashkar-e-Toiba Divisional Commander. Official sources said that based on a tip off provided by military intelligence police laid a naka near Traffic Check Post Nagrota, this morning. The police party intercepted a bus, which was on its way to Kishtwar, they said adding, during the frisking of the passengers police recovered Rs 4 lakh from the possession of a civilian. He was identified as Muhammad Sadiq son of Muhammad Ramzan of Jagota, Kishtwar. The suspect was immediately taken into custody and lodged in Police station Nagrota, where a case under FIR No 276/07 was registered against him. Defence spokesman Col Goswami told NAK that the accused has confessed that the consignment was handed over to him by another LeT worker Raja, who had brought it from Kalyan in Maharastra. The Hawala consignment was to be delivered to Divisional Commander of LeT Showkat Ahmed in Thatri area, he said. A senior police officer said that the money was transferred through hawala and was meant for militant activities in twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar. He said that some more arrests were likely in next few days as the accused has named some more persons involved in the racket. |
