| Srinagar-Leh NH to remain open upto October 31: Hakeem | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Oct 17 The Srinagar Leh National Highway would remain open for traffic upto October 31, 2007 for two-way traffic of all types of vehicles. This was disclosed by the Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen at a high level officers meeting held here today under his chairmanship. The meeting was convened to discuss various matters pertaining to the transport sector. Speaking in the meeting, Hakeem Yaseen underscored the need for encouraging bus services with in the districts for better transport facilities to the people, adding that the transporters who are issued fresh route permits would be asked to operate in the districts for first two years. He said that this would also be ensured that dealers may not sell any kind of vehicle to the owners without proper documents making thereby prior obtaining of route permits, licenses, etc. mandatory. The Minister directed for registering all unregistered vehicles saying vehicles running without registration should be seized. The meeting took several decisions for smooth plying of traffic system in the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar. Secretary Transport Mr. Daleep Singh, Transport Commissioner Mr. P. S. Gill and senior functionaries of the transport and its allied departments also attended the meeting. |
