| NREGS smoothly under implementation in J&K: Dr Raghuvansh | | Assures state of all possible support | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Oct 17 Union Minister for Rural Development Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh today disclosed that the problems of naxal and militancy in several parts of the country have not impeded with the smooth implementation of rural employment guarantee programmes. Interacting with media on the side lines of 2nd All India Editors Conference on Social Sector here this morning, the Minister described the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) as a mission and a war against poverty and un-employment in rural areas of the country. He said many states have reported and on inquiry it has been found that the set programme has received mass involvement in the areas infested with these problems. He dispelled the notion that the scheme is not being implemented in many of the areas in the country facing militancy. The Minister said that there are many reasons for non-utilization of funds allocated including non-availability of revolving share from state governments, mid season release of funds and casual approach and bottlenecks at the level of state governments. He said as such a mechanism was evolved whereby the states are being reminded almost thrice a month and the bottlenecks are being removed. The Minister said there has been a good participation of women in the implementation of NREGS to the extent of 40 percent and expressed his satisfaction over this scenario. Assuring Jammu and Kashmir of all possible support, Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad said centre would give considerate help in the implementation of the scheme in the given circumstances. He appealed media to report in the most objective manner so that common man gets know how of these schemes in time. |
