| Sawalakote hearing adjourned till Nov 5 | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 17 The hearing on the high profile case of 1200 MW Sawalakote power project has been adjourned till November 5. Justice JP Singh of Jammu and Kashmir High Court fixed as November 5 the next date of hearing in the case titled Sawlakote Prosjektutviklingas and others Vs State & Ors after two days of arguments lead senior Supreme Court lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi on behalf of the company. Earlier the state High Court in the month of November 2006 directed had directed the state government not to call fresh global tenders and also directed Chief Engineer Power Development Corporation that he will maintain status-quo as it exists on that day till next date of hearing. It may be mentioned here that that the petitioner Contractors filed petition apprehending fresh tenders. According to the earlier order of State High Court that Contractors of 1200 MW Sawalkote Hydro Electric Power Project on River Chenab in Distrcit Doda for a cost of Euro 763 Million (Exchange Rate of Rs 53 for 1 Euro) has challenged the decision to cancel the EPC contract of the petitioners and also to float fresh Global Tender for the EPC contract and seeking quashment and restraining the respondents from acting upon. Justice Nirmal Singh of J&K High Court Jammu wing after hearing Sr. Advocate of Supreme Court Dr. Abhishek Manu Shinghvi with Ms Ritu Bhalla, Ms Saloni Gupta and Mr. Parnav Kohli Advocates appearing for the petitioners and Advocate General Mr. AH Naik appearing for the state issued notice to State of J&K through Chief Secretary and Chief Engineer Power Development Corporation Jammu. Service of Notice on Respondents is waived by Advocate General Mr. AH Naik who seeks and is allowed one weeks time to file the objections. Justice Nirmal Singh in the meantime directed State of J&K not to call new global tender and also directed Chief Engineer Power Development Corporation that he will maintain status-quo as it exists today till next date of hearing. |
