The effigy of Ravana is put on fire every year to celebrate the victory of good over evil, but many a real life Ravanas still exist as one of them pounced upon an innocent girl of five years in a bid to outrage her modesty.
The girl, who identity is withheld, was molested by her neighbours when she was returning home after watching Ram Lila in the outskirts of her village in Reasi district of, late last evening.
Reports reaching here from the area revealed that a Ram Lila was organised by the locals at village Garmor in Reasi district, last evening. All the villagers, including the family members of Krishan Lal, had gone to watch Ram Lila. When Kirhsan Lal returned back he noticed that his daughter – who had gone wither other children of the neighbourhood - has not reached home.
As the family started searching the five year old girl, some villager brought her in unconscious condition from the house of Chuni Lal, another resident of the same village.
Sources said that the girl was bleeding profusely and it took more than an hour to regain her conscious. The girl, sources said, told her family that while on her way back home, she was forcibly abducted by Rajinder alias Billu son of Mohan Lal.
Accused – said to be nephew of Krishan Lal - allegedly put his hand on her mouth and took her to an isolated place where the accused committed rape on the girl.
The matter was brought to the notice of Reasi police, which immediately swung into action and arrested the accused from his house, where he was sleeping, sources said.
According to Station House Officer Reasi RK Bhardwaj told the accused had blood stains on his cloths, when he was arrested. He said that the girl was shifted to hospital, where she received seven stitches on her vital part.
