Leh | Oct 18 To celebrate the conferment of Highest Civilian Honorary Award, US Congressional Gold Medal to the Nobel Peacc laureate His Holiness the Dalai Lam on 17th October, the Tibetan community settled in Leh organized a grand and impressive function at Jivetsal today. The chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh Sh. Chering Dorje was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Among others who attended the function include Executive Councillors, councilors, Rev. Togdan Rimpochey, Presidents of LBA, Gonpa Association, Anjuman Imaia, MLC, Sh. P. Namgail, District Officers, monks and a large number of Ladakhi and Tibetan people. Speaking on the occasion, Chering Dorje congratulated the people of Tibet in particular and other Buddhist of Ladakh in general for conferment of Highest Civilian Award to Dalai Lama by the United States Congress, the Legislative branch of US Government. He said that the Congressional Award is reserved for individuals who display the highest moral courage and Dalai Lama deserve it whose advocacy of religions harmony, non-violence and human rights throughout the world and his efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Tibet issue through dialogue with the Chinese leadership was recognized by the people of the world. The president LBA, Dr. Sonam Dawa, President Gonpa Association Lama Angehok, Councillor Mohd. Safi, Chief Representative of H. Holiness also spoke on the occasion. |
