| DHS purchases under PAC scanner | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 18 The purchases of medicines and furniture made by the Director Health Services Jammu in violation of norms have come under a scanner of doubt and a legislative panel has asked the Secretary Health and Medical Education to furnish a full detail of the case. The Public Accounts Committee of the legislative assembly which met today in Srinagar under the chairmanship of MLA Mian Altaf Ahmed has expressed its dismay over the manner in which purchases were made by the Director Health Services. Reports said that the Chairman while expressing his dismay over the issue asked the Secretary health to ensure that funds are allocated at appropriate time. The members of the committee asked the Secretary Health to furnish the full details of the case to the committee members within one month for re-examination. The chairman also expressed his concern over the issue of stopping the admission in PG course of Pathology, Orthopedics streams. It was given out that due to lack of faculty and infrastructure, the Medical Council of India had asked the state government to stop further admission in PG course of Pathology and Orthopedics from 2004. The meeting was informed that to over come this issue, 150 faculty members had been recruited recently and required infrastructure was created at SKIMS and Bone and Joint Hospital, Srinagar. The admission in both the streams would be started shortly, the meeting was informed. Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department was asked to pursue the matter with the MCI vigorously and ensure that admission of both the streams is restored at an earliest. Chairman asked the Secretary Health to explore the way so that these unemployed doctors of BUMS are absorbed in the department. The meeting also discussed the embezzlement case of SMHS, Srinagar. It was informed that one nursing orderly was terminated from the service and the police acquitted another Sr. Assistant in the case. The members were of the opinion as to why the DDO and RMO have not been punished in the case, who were supposed to monitor the day to day financial transactions of the hospital. It was informed that RMO has been transferred to GMC, Srinagar, but members asked the secretary health to furnish full details of the case to the committee within one month so that case is re-examined. Among others, Legislators, Mr. Raman Balla, Mr.Yogesh Sawheny, Mr. Mohammad Sartaj Madni, Mr.Mohammad Aslam, Mr. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Mr Bilal Ahmad Khan Lodhi, Secretary Health and Medical Education Department, Mr. K.B. Jandial and other officers of health department were present in the meeting. |
