A boy and girl, believed to be lovers died under mysterious circumstances in Jammu on Friday.
According to police, a team of city police Friday morning recovered a body of a middle aged youth from inside the hotel room in Gumat area. The youth has been identified as 32 year old Naveen, a resident of Batala in Punjab. An unconscious girl identified as 26-year old Anu, from Purian Mohalla, Batala was also found lying inside the room but she died later in hospital. Police suspect both the boy and girl died after consuming poisonous substance as a bottle of a poisonous material was recovered from inside the hotel room.
Police said that Naveen and Anu had checked-in at a hotel in the city yesterday evening. Late last night they had ordered dinner and water in their room. It said that on Friday morning hotel staff received a call from Anu asking for drinking water. As the waiter went to the room the door was not opened despite his knock. Sunil the hotel boy is reported to have stated that after the door was not opened, he informed the owner who called the police.
Confirming it, superintendent police, Sanjay Kotwal said, “Police jawans entered the room from the gallery side and found Naveen dead while Anu lying on the bed in an unconscious state.” He said that the jawans recovered a bottle containing some poisonous material. Anu was shifted to the Medical College hospital, where she died.
The police said that their relatives in Batala have been informed and the bodies will be handed over to them after carrying out autopsy. In reply to a question, the police said, “We have not been so far able to ascertain whether Anu and Naveen were married or simply friends in love.” |
