| Mangat inaugurates baseball tourney | | ’Sports persons are ambassadors of goodwill’ | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Oct 19 Asserting that youth are the architects of nation, Minister for Health and Medical education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma has stressed upon them to acquaint themselves with physical, moral and cultural education besides academic education and bring laurels to the nation. The Minister was addressing to the players and audience after inaugurating six day 3rd All India Baseball Tournament at Kashmir University today, organized by Kashmir University in collaboration with Baseball Federation of India Chandigarh. In all 1000 players of 21 states of the country are participating in the tournament. The Minister asked the players that they should also enjoy the beauty of Kashmir by visiting various tourist destinations of the valley while being here. He said Kashmir the paradise on earth witnessed adversity due to long turmoil but now things are changing for better, he added. Mr. Sharma stressed upon the players that they should act as ambassadors of Jammu and Kashmir when they return to their native states and ventilate the people there about the peaceful atmosphere of the state so that they too visit this heaven on earth. Mr. Sharma while sharing his concern with audience about the occasional violent incidents occurring in the valley, said that these acts are master minded by certain misguided elements of society adding that terrorism is a worldwide phenomena in the contemporary times and not restricted to our state only. He said that our country has fought this sinister demon of terrorism successfully and expressed hope that it will never allow it to raise its ugly head again. While describing the historical and cultural ethos of the state to the audience, the Minister said that J&K, like India is a sign of secularism, cultural harmony, amity and brotherhood which has always served as a cradle of civilization throughout the ages. He said our state has a rich tradition of being a home to various sofi and spiritual saints who have spread message of love, unity and peace into other parts of country of the world. Hailing the steps of Union Government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Minister said that dialogue process initiated with Pakistan by our leadership are yielding fruitful results. He said time has come when trade and commerce would be started from Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road and people of the both parts would visit each other freely. The Minister instructed the health authorities to keep available all health care facilities to the participants players. Mr. Sharma also released a souvenir on the occasion. Member Legislative Assembly Hazratbal constituency Mr. Syed Mohammad Akhoon also spoke on the occasion and announced Rs one lakh to Kashmir University for development of sports activities. Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof. Abdul Wahid and Registrar Kashmir University also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the sports activities of the University. Director Health Services Kashmir assured the management that all necessary health care facilities besides first aid would be kept available to the participants of the tournaments. Secretary Baseball Federation of India Mr. Anand, Director Physical Education Kashmir University, Director Health services Kashmir and other concerned officers and officials were present on the occasion. |
