De-addiction camp concludes

A fortnight long de-addiction camp concluded in the premises of Durga mandir, Rampura here today. The camp was organised by JK Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses. This Low Cost Community De-addiction camp was the third Low cost camp organised by the society in the community in the year 2007 only, with the special assistance from United Nations Office of Drug and Crime.
On this occasion the clients shared their experience, also the parents of drug users who were participating in the program said that they really appreciates the efforts of Society for organising such camps for the youth who are knowingly or unknowingly involved in drug addiction due to various reasons, they further said that activities like this are very helpful for the general masses, particularly among the youth.
JKSPYM is actively involved in organising care and support program for drug users in Jammu and Kashmir, like drug rehabilitation, program, Needle Exchange program, Safer Practices program, Abscess management Program, Oral Substitution program, over dose management program among drug users in Jammu.
In the camp, main target group are opiate drug users, particularly Intravenous drug users, as they are more in risk of infections like HIV, STI, Hepatitis-B, and Hepatitis –C etc.
Dr. Aarti Bakshi, Prof. Psychology, Jammu University, was also present on the occasion; she appreciated the role of SPYM for organising such camp. She interacted and counselled the drug users and promised for further help.
Uma Sharma, Principal Galaxy College of education and President Patanjali Yog Peeth of Jammu district, provided training on Deep breathing and Pranayam, to the drug users.
Pallavi said that this program was of almost one month duration. Almost ¾ of the initial treatment and detoxification was done in home setup with support and supervision by staff of the centre. Once they were stable, the clients are brought into camp set up for complete abstinence and also to provide psychological help and support both individually as well as in group.
He further said that all the staff members of the society including Manju Cheema, Sanjay Jandial, Sandeep Sharma, Deepak Kumar, and Shailendar put lots of efforts to make this program a successful one.
