| Bears spread terror in North Kashmir. | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Oct 19 Bears have let loose a reign of terror in north Kashmir, as the residents of Hawkpora, Chandernagar, Safapora in Bandipora district and many villages of Kupwara have complained that movement outside their houses has become threatened due to sprawling of bears around. The villagers have urged the wild life department to issue orders for shooting the bear. The villagers rue that bears are frequently visiting their areas and attack people at anytime. The situation has created a fear psychosis in the area and people fear to move out of their homes. "They (bears) even barge into our residential areas during the late houses. Even within the four walls of our houses, we feel unsafe", a delegation of residents of the area said Ghulam Nabi, one among the delegation while narrating woeful tale of bear fear psychosis said that authorities are looking the mute to take any action, even as at least three persons have been injured in the bear attacks and they are undergoing treatment. "Wild Life officials and the district administration are not taking any action, despite our pleas to do some thing for us. We time and again bring our problems to their notice but of no avail. No measure has been taken by the wild life department to prevent the bear attacks", he said. "We even approached the police and sort their help in protecting the lives of people. They, however, refused to help us saying it does not fall under their jurisdiction", the residents of the affected villages said. They villagers have urged the officials of wild life department to issue orders for shooting the bear that has let loose a reign of terror in Hakapora, Chandernag village in Safapora. They have also urged the district administration to intervene into the serious matter and take up the matter with wild life department. Virtually seemed fed up with this situation in their area, the villagers said that if no measures were taken by the wild life department to kill the bear, they would en masse migrate from the affected villages. Despite repeated attempts to talk to wild life warden in this regard, he could not be contacted. |
