| This school has no matriculate in 30 yrs | | | Early Times Reporter Kishtwar | Oct 19 Believe it or not but a government high school in a remote area of Kishtwar district has not produced even a single matriculate student since it was established thirty years back in 1977. Government High School Nagbatna was set up in 1977 but till date not even a single student has passed matriculation exams from this school, well informed sources told News Agency of Kashmir. With a population of more than 10,000 people in Nagbatna, nearly 300 students from 10 to 12 adjoining villages like Akarhangi, Hilor, Maleyi, Nagbatna, Sangra, Kutal, Dandera, Pallan, Lellaran and Suigarh come to this school for the purpose of attaining education, they added. Sources divulged that acute shortage of staff, both teaching and non-teaching, have badly affected the students, who largely leave their studies and start working as labourers. Locals from Nagbatna village, Muhammed Munawar son of Muhammed Ramzan and Ghulam Rasool son of Ghulam Ahmed told NAK that in the three decades not even a single student has been able to pass his matriculation exam from this school. "Very few students of this village passed their class X exams but from Kishtwar and not from this school," they said. Muhammed Munawar told NAK that shortage of teaching staff has badly hit the students in this area of the district. "Many a times villagers approached the educational authorities informing them about shortage of teaching staff but due to their apathetic attitude nothing has been done so far," said Mohammed Munawar. Ghulam Ahmed said, "We want our children to get education but due to inadequate teachers they leave their education mid-way and being poor people we can not send them to Kishtwar." He claimed that the number of drop out cases from this school have increased over the years. However, Chief Education Officer Doda Ashok Kumar Sen said authorities recently posted Abdul Kabir as headmaster of the school. He told sources that he has been informed about shortage of teaching staff in the school and measures were being taken to overcome the problem. "We will take up the matter on priority and shortly all the problems will be addressed," he added. "Schools in the entire district are understaffed but we are working to overcome this problem," said the CEO. |
