| Ram Dayal, Manik shine as Shastri Club wins U-19 cricket tourney | | | Early Times Reporter

Powered by skipper Ram Dayal Punia’s 55-ball 73, Shastri Cricket Club (SCC) today clinched the Ist Satish Sharma memorial under-19 cricket tournament beating Rehari Cricket Club by a big margin of 101 runs in the final played at Parade ground, here.
The final revolved around two fine performances from Ram Dayal and Manik Gupta. While Ram Dayal displayed excellent batting skills hitting three sixes and nine boundaries guiding SCC to a big total, Manik later clinched six wickets to reduce RCC to 131 runs in 30.5 overs.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, SCC set a big target of 232 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 35 overs.
Ram Dayal made 73 runs while Ashish and Manik Gupta contributed 40 and 31 runs respectively. From RCC, Nitish claimed two wickets while VS Chib, Amit and Chetan Singh shared a piece each.
In reply, RCC lost all their wickets for 131 runs in 30.5 overs. Amit was top scorer with 34 runs while Chetan Singh contributed 25. Manik claimed six wickets. Ram Dayal, Bandeep Singh, Sohail and Ankit Sharma bagged one wicket each.
Manik Gupta was adjudged man of the match for his six-wicket haul while Ram Dayal was declared man of the series. Ram Dayal also bagged the best batsman trophy for scoring 301 runs in the tournament while best bowler award went to Manik Gupta, who took 12 wickets.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Jammu-Kathua range, Lalit I Mohanty was chief guest in the final while SSP Jammu, Parminder Singh and SP (Ops), SSP V S Sambyal were guests of honour.
In the final, Brij Mohan and Santa Singh were umpires while Rajeev Pakhetra was the scorer. |
