| Rush for PDP ticket seekers continue to swell | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 20 Despite divided opinion over the PDP leadership’s plan to pull out of the Government the number of partymen aspiring to get PDP mandate for contesting the next election from various areas in the Jammu region has swelled forcing Mufti Mohd.Sayeed to request them not to scramble over the tickets. During the one-day convention of party leaders in Jammu on Friday the Mufti referred to the reports that two to four partymen were fighting with one another for getting the ticket for contesting the Assembly poll.He advised them to work for strengthening the organization in the Jammu region where “we are keen to win some seats.”He said in 2002 the PDP drew blank from the Jammu region and this had to be looked into and the party leadership will,at an appropriate time, discuss the issue. The PDP patron told partymen not to weaken the organization by querrling with one another over ticket allotment. He said whenever the time came the party leadership will decide the matter on its merit and those who were denied the party tickets should support the candidates fielded by the PDP. He suggested party leaders and workers to identify important issues from the Jammu region which could be included in the party’s poll manifesto so that “we stand a better chance of bagging some seats.” Meantime, opinion within the PDP is divided over any plan of the PDP to withdraw support to the Congress. Those who oppose it include a former Deputy Chief Minister,Muzaffar Hussain Baig,Ghulam Hassan Mir and two cabinet ministers.Mr Baig has cautioned the PDP leadership against snapping ties with the Congress on the plea that it would weaken the party and help its rivals.Mr Ghulam Hassan Mir also is not in favour of pulling out of the Government. He said that whatever the party leadership has said about the Congress led Government it was part of the PDP strategy to force the Chief Minister to take steps for improving the performance of the Government. Mir said there was no possibility of early poll because it was too early for the PDP to think of withdrawing support to the Government. One senior PDP leader said that party leaders may have different perception but instead of airing them publicly they should raise such matters in the party forum. He said there were no serious ideological differences between the PDP and the Congress.”It was merely a clash of ego,”he said adding that it would be in the interest of the coalition Government if the Chief Minister took the PDP leadership and the ministers into confidence while taking some important or less important decisions. |
