| Back from Delhi, Azad shows up with Farooq | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 21 After his return from New Delhi following a pullout threat by the alliance partner Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today rubbed shoulders with former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and other National Conference leaders in an apparent indication that he has friends across the fence too. Azad who scheduled to stay put in Delhi for five days but he rushed back in the summer capital as his meeting with the Congress president Sonia Gandhi materialized on the very second day of his visit to the union capital. Back home from New Delhi Azad appeared more confidant and comfortable and made company with the National Conference leaders to further pinch the Peoples Democratic Party top brass. On the Police commemoration day in Srinagar today, where Chief Minister Azad was the Chief Guest, the Ministers from the Peoples Democratic Party were conspicuous by their absence. Interestingly, the most unexpected guests were a large number of the National Conference leaders led by their patron Dr Farooq Abdullah. Farooq's presence on the occasion is seen as a deliberate political attempt at his part to show the Peoples Democratic Party that he was close to Azad. In fact Farooq appears to be too keen to see the coalition falling not for the fact that he is in a position to emerge stronger but to see the PDP weakening. He made public appearance reiterating his relevance in the prevailing political scenario immediately after the Peoples Democratic Party dropped signals about the possibility of pulling out of the government. It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's proximity with Dr Farooq Abdullah and other National Conference leaders is one of the major charges against him from the PDP quarters. Politics apart, the Muftis are even psychological arch rivals of the Abdullahs and vice versa. In past two years –after the change of guard –such occasions have been seen many times when Azad closeted with Farooq or the other way round irritating the Muftis. |
