The city of temples, as Jammu is called, tastily decorated with saffron flags will witness the first pre-poll salvo that is to be fired by the BJP leadership at a massive public rally tomorrow. According to President state unit of the BJP, Ashok Khajuria, “Out of 37,000 polling agents, who have been appointed for keeping a watch on the polling booths during the next Assembly poll, about 25,000 were expected to be present at the Tuesday’s rally where the BJP Chief, Rajnath Singh, will unfold the party’s strategy for the election.
He said on his arrival Mr Rajnath Singh will garland the statue of Pandit Prem Nath
Dogra at the Dogra Chowk and later address the rally.During his day-long visit the
BJP Chief will discuss the latest political and security scenario in the state. On the eve of Rajnath Singh’s visit to Jammu the security grid has been further strengthened. The parade ground will be kept under heavy security cover. The passenger transport services were to be regulated in such a way as it will not upset the security bandobast.Police said that additional companies of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in the city in order to ensure an incident free BJP rally.
Rajnath Singh will also discuss with senior party leaders the latest security
and political situation in the state. In fact the BJP high command is keen to repeat the
1977 poll performance when the Janata Party bagged 13 seats, including one from the
Kashmir valley. It has remained perturbed over the dismal performance of the BJP
during the 2002 poll when it could win only one seat in a house of 87.
The mood of senior BJP leaders in Jammu is upbeat on the ground that their party
has chances of a better performance in the next poll. However,it is too early to accept
their plea that the antiincumbency factors besides ongoing conflict between the Congress and the PDP would help the saffron brigade to win more seats than the 2002 poll.
