| Trans-LoC trade would soon be reality: Jairam | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Oct 22 Union Minister of state for Commerce, Jairam Ramesh today said that Trans-LoC trade would soon become a reality, as full ground work has been done by the two governments of India and Pakistan for re-starting of trade between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad. . The minister also announced that a special institute would be set up in Srinagar to impart training to the artisans regarding gems and jewelry. The union commerce minister was here today to address the buyer-seller meet, where he further said that India and Pakistan have exchanged the lists of items of which the trade would be done. "All the three lists prepared separately by Pakistan government, J & K government and Indian government, has been exchanged by the two governments (India and Pakistan)", he said. He added that 14 items were exchanged in total from which the government of Pakistan accepted the trade of nine items whereas it rejected the trade of rest of the five ite Stating further the minister said that the nine items which the Pakistan government has accepted, is what the J & K traders want. "This is good beginning," he said. He, however, said that the Indian government is waiting for the response of the Pakistan government, as the final word, as per him is yet to come from the government of Pakistan in this regard On the occasion Ramesh also informed that the items which have been rejected by the Pakistan government include leather and leather products; juice, jam and pickle; recently tin-packed food; copper and silver items; and fabricated ite He also said the list of the items agreed by the other side of government. "Carpets, wall hangings, shawls, embroidery, furniture and wooden items, silk and silk products, spices and flowers, saffron, Kashmiri Wazwan, aromatic and fruit plants etc. are the items accepted by Pakistan government to trade with us," he said. He also announced that an institute would be set up in J&K to promote training in gems and jewelry. He said 20 youth of the State had already been trained in the job. He said a team of Leather Export Promotion Council would arrive in Srinagar to promote leather industry and its export potential. The minister said that the skin available in Kashmir, especially of sheep, was rated high in the world. |
