| Rain ruins another India-Sri Lanka one-dayer | | | COLOMBO | august 20
The second one-day cricket international between India and Sri Lanka was abandoned without a ball being bowled as bad weather continued to play havoc with the series. Overnight rain and another wet spell over the Sri Lankan capital forced the umpires to call off the game on Sunday at the Sinhalese sports club at 13:30 pm (0800 GMT). The match will be played on Monday, weather permitting. The first one-dayer saw only 16 minutes of play despite being spread over two days on Friday and Saturday. The third and final match is scheduled to be held on Tuesday. The three-match series has been organised in lieu of the tri-series that was cancelled last week after South Africa pulled out due to security fears after a deadly bomb attack near their hotel. The Indian team has played just one practice match since their arrival 10 days ago. A preceding two-Test series between Sri Lanka and South Africa was held in sunny conditions with the hosts winning both matches. Bad weather hit the Sri Lankan capital just as the Indians landed here on August 10. |
