| Poonch College wins by five runs | | Inter-college cricket | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 22 Degree College Poonch registered a narrow five-run victory over Sant Rocha Singh (SRS) College to advance into the next round of ongoing inter-college cricket tournament at University of Jammu grounds, here today. Batting first after winning the toss, Poonch College lost all their wickets for 143 runs in 29.5 overs. In reply, SRS College could not reach the required total and bowled out for 139 runs in 34.5 overs of the 40 overs match. Zahid Sharif was top scorer from Poonch College with 28 runs while Nizarat and Waqar Ahmed contributed 22 and 20 runs respectively. From SRS College, Ripudaman claimed four wickets, followed by Gagandeep, who took two. Batting second, SRS College played slow but steady innings. However, they failed to make it to the victory as the tale-enders failed to overcome the pressure and the whole side bowled out for 139 runs in 34.5 overs. Anil Choudhary contributed highest 30 runs while Gagandeep Singh made 29. Simranjeet and Parmeet Singh added 17 and 10 runs respectively. Nizart Hussain was most successful bowler from Poonch College who clinched three wickets for 25 runs in 7.3 overs. Zahid Sharief and Naveed Ahmed shared two each. Nizart Hussain was adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance. Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director Colleges Development presented the man of the match trophy. Today’s match was officiated by Mohit Jamwal and Naveen Sharma. Next match: Government MAM College to take on Trikuta College tomorrow. |
