| AJKHA gives ultimatum to government | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER Srinagar | August 20
Saying that government failed to fulfill the demands of physically disabled persons of the state and neglected lot of the society, President handicapped Association of Jammu and Kashmir G M Lone while serving another ultimatum to the government said that if their demands were not accepted they will launch state wide strike. G M Lone president all J&K HCA said that the disabled persons both in service and unemployed are being deprived of their rights. “State government has been apathetic to our demands for all these years” he said adding that there has been an alarming increase in the number of handicapped persons in the state especially in view of the on going turmoil, No survey has been undertaken by the government to consolidate a fresh list of disabled persons. He further said that as per preliminary data compiled by the Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped association, there are more than 450000 disabled persons in the J&K state who have been neglected in every sphere of life by the respective governments. “On the one hand government claims to have several schemes for the welfare of disabled persons and on the other even not a single such scheme has been implemented on the ground”, Mohd Amin general sectary of the association said He said that we appeal to chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Finance Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig to please consider the demand of phically disabled people and include them under the parameters of SRO 294. The department of social welfare needs to be audited for the funds they received under different schemes, where crores of rupees have been misappropriated by the authorities i.e. Social welfare department in the name Handicapped persons. No steps have been taken so far to make best use of the financial assistance meant for this neglected lot. Referring to their demands Lone said that following demands have been placed before the government and not even a single one has been accepted so far. The demands, he said include. Handing over the possession of Home for blind & disabled to the Handicapped Association so that it can be run properly, A vehicle for the office use of the association, Motor drivers and wheel chairs for the disabled persons,10% reservation in government services, Soft loans for establishment of own business ventures, Free education for children of disabled persons, Reservation in professional and technical colleges, Implementation of SRO 220 of 1998 in letter & sprit, Filling of all back log posts through PSC and SSRB with special quota for physically handicapped qualified persons, Establishment of free hostels in each district for the handicapped persons and their children besides special grant of assistance from Rajeev Gandhi foundation west New Delhi. Statement further said that earlier association had served an ultimatum of one month which recently expires has after its meeting again given time to government to look into the demands of the association. |
