| Trade items across LoC short listed: Union Minister | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar| Oct 23 Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh today said India and Pakistan have short listed items for trade across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. Ramesh, who was here to attend the first Kashmir Expo 2007 buyer-seller meet, said the items include carpets, shawls, handicrafts, furniture, basmati rice and spices. He said Kashmir expos will be held in London, Moscow, Dubai, Dallas and Melbourne to promote handicrafts and added that if a similar expo in Pakistan was proposed, it would be favourably considered. The minister said the J and K and central governments are collaborating to set up an international marketing centre for Kashmir handicrafts in Delhi. He said a proposal for this would be submitted by the state government to him within two weeks. Next month the foundation for an international trade centre will be laid at Pampore. The project, worth Rs 35 crore will be completed within 15 months, he said. Ramesh said an institute of gemmology will be set up in the state to promote training in gems and jewellery. |
