| Work in triple shift: Executing agencies asked | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct Sub committee of the committee of estimates under the chairmanship of MLA Mr. Ghulam Hussain Khan today inspected pace of work at Sittle Filtration Plant and 200 bedded additional children ward at SMGS Hospital today. At SMGS Hospital, the committee was informed that so far Rs. 5.50 crore have been expended on the construction of additional block and it is expected to be completed by May 2008. The committee underscored the need of executing this ambitious project in triple shift system so that people facing problems due to lack of this vital health care facility could feel a sign of relief. The team inspected the Gynae Ward, Theatre, Labour Room and interacted with the patients. They enquired about the availability of doctors, paramedical staff, medicines and essential supplies and stressed for providing best medi-care and diagnostic facilities to the patients. Observing dilapidated condition of hospital infrastructure such as leakage in ceilings, damaged flooring, the members informed that they will ensure that the Health Minister and senior officers of the Health department visit the hospital to take stock of the damages so that repair work can be initiated at the earliest. The committee also visited Thalecaemic Day care Unit where Thalecaemic children were being transfused blood and enquired about the facilities being given to the children suffering from this dreaded disease. On finding unhygienic atmosphere in and around canteen they asked the hospital authorities to maintain complete sanitation in the canteen and also increase the food items in the menu list for the convenience of patients and visitors. At construction site the committee expressed dissatisfaction over the quality of cement and asked the concerned officers to ensure use of quality material. At Sitlee Filtration Plant, the committee was informed that out of the estimated cost of Rs. 6.54 crore, Rs. 2.27 crore have been spent till date. The Filtration Plant was washed off last year due to incessant rains and work is in full swing to repair and re-commission the entire plant by 2007. The team emphasized upon the executing agencies especially JKPCC to redouble their efforts to ensure early and timely completion of these prestigious projects by removing the bottlenecks leading to unnecessary delay. They also emphasized the need of better coordination between the concerned agencies at all levels to yield better results.
