Former Forest Minister and Minister for Housing and Urban Development Qazi Mohammad Afzal today stayed away from the cabinet meeting, which also witnessed some heated arguments between Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Qarra and Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, forcing the former to leave the meeting midway.
Sources revealed that Afzal did not participate in the cabinet meeting despite the recent clarification by the Chief Minister's Secretariat that he continues to hold the portfolio of Housing and Urban Development department.
The resignation of Qazi Afzal, Man Friday of PDP patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed – which snowballed into a major controversy between the two coalition alliances- seems to be hunting the coalition government as the minister insisted that he has resigned from the cabinet.
The cabinet meeting was held for the first time after the controversy surfaced between the alliance partners. Sources said that Qazi with his absence from the cabinet has sent a clear signal to the government led by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad about his intentions.
The meeting, sources disclosed also witnessed heated arguments between Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Hameed Qarra and Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma over some transfers.
Though the meeting continued without any interruption, Qarra, sources said, left the meeting in a huff. After about fifteen minutes Sharma also left the meeting, sources added.
It was also reliably learnt that PDP patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed had instructed his party legislators not to raise any kind of fresh controversy in the meeting.
