| Pre-poll campaign revived in valley | | | Early Times Reporter

Mainstream political parties have revived what is called pre-poll campaign, which remained suspended during the month of Ramzan, by holding series of public rallies in various parties of Jammu and Kashmir. While the National Conference and the PDP, two arch political foes, have focused their attention on the Kashmir valley the BJP and the Panthers Parties have begun giving teeth to their campaign in the Jammu region. The Congress leadership has activated its leaders for promoting mass contact programmes in both the regions.
Leaders of different political parties use strategies that suit them.While the National Conference and the PDP leaders make every attempt at maligning each other the Congress leadership concentrates on the achievements of Azad led Government.Till date the PDP and the Congress have avoided raising accusing fingers against each other.Interestingly the National Conference leaders even while criticizing the ruling coalition target the PDP leadership instead of the Congress.
In the Jammu region the Panthers Party leadership has begun aiming its guns on the Congress and the PDP.Its supreme,Prof. Bhim Singh is at present busy in getting huge posters prepared in which it has announced war against the PDP and the Congress by describing them as the main enemy of the people of the Jammu region. In fact the Panthers Party is likely to be challenged by the Congress and the BJP at the hustings and not by the PDP.Equally interesting the way the BJP leadership has targeting the Congress and the Panthers because it sees in them its main rival during the next election.
While the PDP has decided to use demilitarization,scrapping of Armed Forces special powers Act and strengthening of the ongoing India-Pakistan peace process, as the main slogan during the campaign,the National Conference will revive its slogan of restoration of greater autonomy.The Congress has the plan of using the ongoing development worls,work culture promotion,war against corruption and creation of eight new districts in the pre-poll campaign.The BJP leadership,wishing to bank on victory in the Jammu region,has decided to use the slogan of repeal of Article 370,reorganization of the state,end to regional discrimination,strengthening of state’s integration with the rest of the country in the ongoing pre-election campaign.
The Panthers Party is under the impression that the antiincumbency factors could maul the Congress and the PDP which could allow a chance to it for improving its performance.It hopes to gain mileage from the poor performance of the coalition Government.
While the PDP has a plan of opening its account in the Jammu region,the National Conference is keen to improve its performance from this region.Both these parties feel that they will have a major share of the cake from the Kashmir valley.Against this the Congress feels safe in the Jammu region and wants to win between five to seven seats in the valley.In 2002 it had won five seats in the Kashmir valley and 15 from the Jammu region. |
