Early Times Reporter Udhampur | Oct 25 District Police Volley Ball team clinched the champions trophy by defeating Udhampur City Volley Ball team by 3 - 1 in best of five matches in a District Level Volley Ball championship being organized by the District Volley Ball Association, Udhampur, last evening. As many as 17 teams of men and women category took part in the tournament which started on October 16, 2007 at Mini-Stadium, Udhampur. In Women section, Government Higher Secondary School, Ramnagar was declared as winner and Women College, Udhampur as runners up. The District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, O.P. Kalandria was the chief guest on the valedictory function. Additional Deputy Commissioner, J.L. Sharma, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Udhampur, B.N. Bhat, Dy. SP (HQ), Amit Gupta, Ex-Assistant Director, Youth Services, Preetam Kotwal, Veteran Players including Raj Guru, Roshan Lal, Bhushan Sethi, Kulwant Singh, prominent citizens and sports lovers were present to witness the final event. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kalandria lauded the efforts of organizers in holding this event which provides a platform to sportsmen to expose their talent. He also appreciated the team spirit and talent exhibited by the two teams in final event which ended in a close finish. He wished the players all the success in their life and hoped that they would compete at state and national level sports events. Responding to the demand of flood lights, change over room for players and drinking water facility in the Mini-Stadium, the DDC assured to provide four flood lights. Regarding other demands he also said that some provision would be kept to meet their remaining demands. |
