Seminar on tax deduction held

In order to facilitate understanding and enforcement of Income Tax Act (ITA), the department of Income Tax organized one-day seminar for Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of Rajouri district here yesterday.
Additional District Development Commissioner Mr. K. L. Khajuria was the chief guest while all the sectoral officers and DDOs were present. Income Tax Officers Mr. V. K. Watal and Rajiv Gabgotra were key activist. While initiating the seminar Mr. Watal divulged the objective of holding this seminar.
Addressing the seminar Mr. Khajuria stressed for observing Income Tax Rules in letter and spirit adding each DDO will adhere to the instructions containing in the Rules. He said DDO will personally be held responsible for any violation for non-deduction or less deduction of income tax as these constitute severe offences under the ITA. The objective for holding the seminar, he said, is to train the DDOs of the district on various provisions of tax deduction at source.
Earlier, Mr. Watal informed the categorical revised Income Tax Rules 2007-08 for the facilities of the DDOs. He issued a copy of the guidelines containing all the norms and instructions to all the DDOs for working out the strategy of the income tax to be deducted while drawing the salary of the officers/ officials. He also issued instructions to the DDOs to get the PAN/TAN number allotted to all the officers/ officials of their respective establishments who falls in the range of Rs. 1.10 lakh annual income so as to monitor all on internet communication.
