Bhanu’s 50 in vain as Kathua College lose by 3 runs

Despite brilliant knocks from Bhanu Pratap Singh (50 off 25 balls) and Rajveer Singh (46 off 47 balls) Degree College Kathua lost to Government MAM (Evening) College by three runs in the ongoing inter-college cricket tournament at University grounds, here today.
The lack experience was quite indicative from the way the Kathua bowlers bowled giving away 43 runs through extras. Later, sailing on two superb batting performances from Bhanu and Rajveer, the taleenders failed in giving finishing touch to their innings and lost the match by a narrow margin.
Earlier, MAM College won the toss and decided to bat they scored 195 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. In reply, Kathua College could not reach the required mark and exhausted their quota of 30 overs for 192 with one wicket in hand.
Rohit was top scorer with 43 runs including six boundaries while Vikas Bawa and Amir Khan contributed 28 and 23 runs respectively. Kathua bowlers looked inexperienced after they gave away 43 extra runs. Himanshu Sharma, who took three wickets proved to be costly with 46 runs in six overs. However, Anil Singh bowled economical spell with two for 17 in six overs. Rajveer Singh claimed one wicket for seven runs in the only over he bowled.
Batting second, Degree College Kathua made a good start but failed to attain their goal. They completed the 30 overs quota for 192 runs losing nine wickets. Guided by superb knocks from Bhanu Pratap and Rajveer Singh, Himanshu also played brilliant cricket hitting two sixes and a boundary in his 12-ball 24 runs innings. From MAM College, Rohit Sharma, Ankush Dhar and Atul Sharma shared two wickets each.
For his allround performance of 43 runs and two wickets, Rohit Sharma was declared man of the match.
Prof V K Kapoor, Director Law School was special invitee in today’s match who presented man of the match trophy to Rohit Sharma.
Next match: Government Medical College shall take on Degree College Akhnoor on October 29 i.e. Monday.
