| SAC for inquiry against Mangat | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 26 Congress veteran and Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma may have been a part of the cabinet which decides stringent measures against misappropriation of official authority but the state's top anti-graft watchdog wants a regular inquiry against the minister to find out whether he was a party to some illegal appointments in a department once held by him. The state Accountability Commission has ordered regular inquiry for ascertaining whether Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for Health, and two KAS officers were involved in approving "illegal and backdoor appointments in the Khadi and Village Industries Board or not. The order was issued on a complaint filed by one Sajjad Majid. In his complaint Majid had stated that Mangat Ram Sharma as Deputy Chief Minister and as Chairman Khadi and Village Industries Board had,in connivance of two KAS officers, R.C.Sharma and J.P. Singh, made several appointments in the Board in contravention of rules and regulations, established law and directions of the Supreme Court. S.S Ahmed, advocate, pleaded the case of the complainant. The Commission considered the statement of defence filed by Mangat Ram Sharma, R.C. Sharma and J.P.Singh and came to the conclusion that a regular inquiry was called for so as to find out whether the charges leveled by complainant were true or not. While ordering regular inquiry in the matter the Commission allowed two weeks time to the respondents, including Mangat Ram Sharma, to file their additional supplementary affidavits in support of their defence and one week's time to the complainant to file rejoinder if any and the issue was to be taken up for consideration on November 21. |
