| Hidden talent needs larger canvass: Governor | | Golden Jubilee celebrations of Academy | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 28 Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S K Sinha today called for providing larger canvass to artists to prove their mettle, saying that the State has no dearth of talent. Speaking at the inaugural function of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages here this evening, the Governor hoped that the proposed talent hunt by the Academy will help in finding out hidden treasure, which needs to be polished and projected at appropriate levels. General Sinha said the Academy has been doing well in promoting rich ethos and culture of the multi-linguistic State of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the organization has a big challenge to take forward the cultural legacy by inspiring young artists. He congratulated the Secretary for envisioning a befitting calendar of activities to mark the golden jubilee celebration year. He also appreciated the performing artists for enthralling the Jammu audience and hoped that this will inspire the budding artists of the region to demonstrate their talent in similar events. He appreciated the efforts of bringing artists of different regions of the State together by rendering Urdu couplet..’Har Ek Ko Har Ek Se Wabasta Kar Liya, Gulshan ko Gulshan Se Milakar Guldasta Kar Liya’ In his welcome address, Secretary, Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Dr Rafiq Masoodi said that the Academy has been endeavoring for the past half century to promote rich heritage, culture and languages of the State. In this context he made a mention of various publications being published to give boost to intellectual pursuits of young writers. He said the vision of the founders of the Academy is being realized successfully and efforts are on to preserve precious manuscripts for posterity to know about their glorious cultural legacy. Dr Masoodi said that during this whole year the Academy will concentrate on the real and ethnic talent hunt at tehsil and village level. International, national and regional competitions, seminars, artist camps, exchange of cultural events with other Sates and countries will mark the golden jubilee celebrations, he added. The Governor also opened the recently launched Website of the Academy. The evening was marked by scintillating cultural bonanza by Chanchal Bharti and Rekha Suraya from Delhi and local folk singers like Pradhuman Singh and Krishna Kumari besides Ghulam Mohammad and his associates. The finale of the event was a dance sequence by the students of Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu on the Dogri composition sung by Shamima Dev Azad. The Lady Governor, Mrs Premini Sinha was also present. The Governor honoured the participating artists. Special Secretary of the Academy, Mr T R Sharma presented vote of thanks. |
