| Five persons injured in clashes | | | Bhaderwah | Oct 28 Five persons were injured in a clash between police and people demanding compensation for land being acquired for setting up Jammu University campus in Bhaderwah town today leading police to use batons and fire in the air. An official team including sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), chief executive officer (CEO), Bhaderwah Development Authority (BDA) and station house officer went to an area in Bhaderwah to demarcate the land for setting up Jammu University campus this afternoon, official sources said. During the demarcation process of the land for setting up Jammu University campus, hundreds of people from the area assembled and stopped the demarcation process and demanded compensation for the land first, they said. When police tried to stop them, it led to a clash between the two sides following which police resorted to baton charge and fired in the air. Five persons were injured in the baton-charge by police, they said adding police fired five to six rounds in the air to disperse the mob. The situation was tense but under control in the district. Bhaderwah is the assembly constituency of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. |
