Fake policemen rob couples en route Surinsar

A Jammu and Kashmir Police person is one among a gang of five who are targeting visitors, mostly couples or pairs-in-love on way to Surinsar and forcing them to part away with their valuable belongings or pay the gang heftily to let them go free.
According to the reliable sources, the gangsters posing as police party lay a ‘fake’ naka on the road leading to Surinsar – a picnic spot and blackmail the pairs-in-love on way to the spot forcing them to either pay heavily as bribe or part away with their mobile phones, jewelry and other valuables to be set free.
Sources revealed that while one among the five is a policeman who evades his duty and instead help the other gang members, the kingpin who poses as a senior officer prefers to sit back in an office where the other four gangsters, one of them posing as an inspector and others as constables fictitiously produce the so-called accused. And, it is here where the bargaining takes place. The target pair in the shape of accused is presented in front of the ‘sahib’ who threatens the couple of severely punishing them and informing their family members. This generally act as hammering on red hot iron and thus lead to the so called accused doing away with whatever valuables they possess while traveling or get free by paying money to the cops, without knowing that they were not real policemen but robbers in police uniform.
Sources added at times when the gangsters are unable to lay hand on uniforms they pose as officials on special duty and play their drama as such. It is the kingpin who daily manages to lay hands on uniforms and police vehicles to enact the scenes regularly, sources added.
When contacted, a senior police officer said that the police has not received any written complaint in this regard so far but such incidents have fell into their ears through junior officials. He, however, assured that whosoever found guilty as such would be dealt with under the law.
