Paying rich tributes to late Shri Rajeev Gandhi on his birth anniversary, JKPCC President and Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed today said that he was the first Prime Minister who invited insurgents to sit across the table for putting their point of view. He said since Rajeev Gandhi first invited Mr. Longowal of Punjab for dialogue, this policy was also followed to settle the issues in Assam, Mizoram and now in J&K. He said "Congress believes in settling the issues through dialogue not by violence". Addressing Congress workers on the occasion, Peerzada said that "if Rajeev Gandhi would not have remained out of power in 1989 the situation in J&K had not been so worse". He said that he had great affection with the people of J&K and his dream was to see J&K as a developed State of the country. He said that he was the first Prime Minister of India who came to valley by road, when it had witnessed heavy snowfall to assess the situation and miseries of the common people on the spot. He asked the workers to dedicate them selves for the Nobel mission that Rajeev Gandhi has shown to the nation. He said that would be the best way to pay tribute to this great leader of India. |
