| Exhibition on wheels draws huge crowds | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 29 Thousands of people particularly students and youth thronged the Azadi Express photo exhibition at railway station here on the second consecutive day today. The exhibition on wheels has been organized by the Department of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) as part of the commemoration of 150th anniversary of the first war of India's independence and 60th anniversary of the independence of the country. The 3-day exhibition will conclude tomorrow and is scheduled to leave for Chandigarh. As part of the Azadi Express photo exhibition, an on-the-spot painting competition was organized today at the railway station by the Directorate of Field Publicity, Jammu and Kashmir Region in which about 200 students took part and made portraits of national leaders. A captivating composite cultural programme based on the glorious heritage of the state was also presented by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and the Department of Information, which was highly appreciated by the audience. The Information Department has also put up a photo exhibition projecting composite cultural heritage and social service sector infrastructure being created across the state. It also depicts revered shrines and tourist spots. The photo exhibition which inter-alia reflects the progress achieved in different sectors of the economy in the state has also got over-whelming response. The Azadi Express photo exhibition mounted on 12 coaches and placed near the parcel section of the railway station gives an insight into the freedom struggle of the country. The exhibition vividly depicts different stages of the freedom struggle and the transformation of the country into the major economies of the world today. Besides photographs, other audio-visual mediums have been appropriately used to portray the events of historical importance during the freedom struggle. Deputy Director General, DAVP, S K Rao when asked about the objective of the exhibition, he said, "we get lot of material to read about history, but the exhibition provides an opportunity to the people particularly students to experience it". Prominent among those present on the occasion was Director Information, Zafar Ahmad and other senior officers. |
