| Walkovers mark opening day of women’s basketball | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 29 Three of the seven teams did not turn up on the opening day of the inter-college women’s basketball competitions thereby forcing the officials to keep on waiting at the University basketball courts, here today. Except for writing walkovers on the score sheets by the table referees and signatures of other officials there was hardy any story to tell about the women basketball on the first day of the three-day event. What happens today speaks loudly about the unhealthy sports in the government run colleges affiliated with the ISO certified University of Jammu. Earlier, in the first match scheduled for today, Government College for Women (GCW) Parade got walkover Degree College Akhnoor while both the teams, Degree College Udhampur and Degree College Kathua, supposed to play the second match failed to turn up. The third match too ended in a walkover with PG Departments entering into the semi-finals without any play. The other team in this match was Government MAM College (Evening). Being the title holder, GCW Gandhi Nagar have got bye in the first round. Now, in tomorrow’s semi-finals, GCW Gandhi Nagar will be playing against PG Departments. With virtually no opponent to take on, the GCW Parade has got direct entry into the final, which shall be played on October 31 at 9.30 am. |
