Sushant, Anuradhan help GMC make it a big win in cricket

Sailing on a superb knock of 62 from Anuradhan and all-round performance by Sushant, Government Medical College (GMC) today trounced Degree College Akhnoor by 92 runs to advance into the next round of ongoing inter-college cricket tournament at University grounds, here.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, the 46-ball 62 runs from Anuradhan and equally good contributions from Rakesh Yadav, Rajpal and Mukesh guided GMC to a big total of 273 in the 35 overs game for the loss of six wickets. Later, excellent bowling by Sushant Menia, who claimed five wickets for 29 runs in 6 overs, helped GMC reduce Akhnoor College to a partly total of 181 runs in 27.5 over.
Rajpal also played good cricket and added quick 39 runs off mere 16 deliveries hitting two sixes and four boundaries. Mukesh contributed 38-ball 40 runs with the help of five boundaries and a six. From Akhnoor College, Rocky Dogra claimed four wickets for 36 runs in four over while Sandeep and Rajinder shared a piece each
In reply, Degree College Akhnoor could not achieve the target despite good knocks from Jagroop Powar, Pardeep and Surjeet. While Jagroop made 37-ball 47 runs, Pardeep and Surjeet contributed 37 and 25 runs respectively. Rohit added 16 runs including two boundaries. From GMC, Sushant bowled excellent spell to take five wickets. Shanky Koul and Rakesh Yadav bagged two and one wicket respectively.
Sushant Menia was adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance. He was presented a trophy by Balbir Singh Chib, Assistant Physical Director Degree College Akhnoor.
Earlier, the match was reduced to 35 overs a side game because of the late arrival of the GMC team which delayed the organizers in completing the formalities, said the University cricket coach, Raj Kumar.
Next match: PG Arts shall take on GGM Science College (Evening) tomorrow.
