| Abdullahs: A family living below poverty line | | Mehbooba says, Farooq is a political misfortune for J&K | | Early Times Reporter
Jammu | Oct 29: As the major political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, the ruling coalition allies Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress and the main opposition National Conference choose to fight their battles through the media instead of public institutions, in a latest salvo Mehbooba Mufti has described her bete noire Dr Farooq Abdullah as a 'misfortune' and the Sheikh clan as a family living 'below poverty line' eager to find a job.
In a hard hitting rebut to Dr Abdullah's verbal aggression against the Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti today said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have already dumped Dr Farooq Abdullah as a "political misfortune once foisted upon them to aggravate their miseries". She was reacting to a recent statement of Dr Farooq wherein he said that the Muftis were greedy for power and were blackmailing the government on issue of demilitarization.
She said, "Dr Abdullah has run out of all respect and credibility among the people and his power-struggle with his son is now an open secret," she said and added that whatever the reasons for his dumping Omar Abdullah, Farooq's lust for power is once again leading the NC, once a premiere political party, from one disaster to another." But fortunately, in the changed circumstances, these acrobatics of the NC leadership would impact Kashmir situation only in a positive sense as the party has forfeited its monopolistic hold on the State," she said.
PDP chief said the admission by Dr Abdullah that "he is in touch with the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad over the coalition matters" needs hardly any comment. "The NC leadership has been behaving, eversince their ouster from the power, as a family living below the poverty line and in pursuit of a job for atleast one member of the family," she said and added that instead of waiting for the right moment and behaving like a responsible opposition party and reviving his political fortunes through democratic process, Dr Abdullah found time in between his holidays and world tours, only to intrigue against the coalition government to create a job vacancy for himself. "Dr Abdullah's latest revelation about having approached Azad Sahab for a job, is positive atleast in some way," she said and added that previously it was ingrained in the former Chief Minister's mind that power could flow only from Delhi. She said to that extent Farooq's realization could be a tribute to the fact that power lies within the State and flows from its people to the elected representatives.
She said the NC leadership is now going from door-to-door apologizing for their misdeeds. "They keep on apologizing to Pakistan for accession to India, to people of Kashmir for everything from rigging elections to institutionalizing corruption and lately for aligning with Gujarat's Narendra Modi," she said and added but at the same time they are blowing their own trumpet for having done wonders to the State's destiny. "What in fact the NC has done over the years, was just exploiting the faith the innocent people of the State had reposed in them and make personal fortunes out of that sacred mandate," she said. |
