| Infiltration bid foiled, one militant killed in J&K | | |

The Army today foiled an infiltration bid and gunned down a militant in Balakote area of Rajouri-Poonch sector.
Troops noticed movement of a group of intruders near the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote area of the sector last night, defence sources said, adding the intruders opened fire when troops challenged them.
In the ensuing fire-fight, which continued for several hours, one militant was killed, the sources said. However his other six associates managed to escape and may have crossed back to Pakistan occupied Kashmir, they said.
The intruders also damaged fencing by wire cutters, the sources said. One AK rifle and one 303 rifle were recovered from the site of the encounter, the sources said, adding search operation was continuing in the area. |
