| Nation remembers Indira on death anniversary | | | New Delhi | Oct 31 The nation today fondly remembered former prime minister Indira Gandhi on her 23rd death anniversary, with President Pratibha Patil leading the countrymen in paying rich tributes to the assassinated leader. Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi were among those who paid floral tributes at 'Shakti Sthal', the memorial of the former prime minister. Union Ministers Shivraj Patil, Ajay Maken and Sriprakash Jaiswal, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Indira Gandhi's grandson and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also placed flower petals at the memorial. Scores of Congress workers and Indira admirers also visited the Shakti Sthal. Indira Gandhi was assassinated on October 31 in 1984 by her Sikh bodyguards in retaliation for Operation Blue Star at the Golden Temple. |
