Cop charged with misappropriating funds

Crime branch Jammu today produced challan against a head constable facing charges of misappropriating department funds.
According a sources in the Crime Branch (CB), the challan has been produced in case FIR No 46/2005 under section 409,420,467,468,471 RPC police station Crime branch Jammu against the head constable Abdul Satar Lone (No 50/8th Bn.) of JKAP in the court of sub judge Jammu.
The sources said that a written complaint was lodged by commandant 8th Bn. JKAP with crime branch Jammu alleging therein that a huge amount of government money has been drawn and misappropriated during the month of January, 2005 in the battalion Hqrs. On this the FIR was registered and investigation started.
Sources said during the course of investigation, records such as supplementary arrears bill withdrawal register, counter file of cheque book, budget register, disbursements register in original and other co-related record pertaining to the instant case of the JKAP 8th Bn. were obtained and seized. Reports said the accused Abdul Satar Lone (cashier) was arrested and thoroughly interrogated. As per the disclosure of the said accused person an amount of rupees 40 lackh was recovered from his house situated at Srinagar. In addition to this some ornaments purchased out of the embezzled amount were also seized from the house of the accused person.
Sources added during the further course of investigation, it came to light that the accused person namely Abdul Satar Lone has tempered the record and made insertion in the bill and changed the actual amount of rupees 3, 51,563 into the amount of rupees 93, 51,563 and profixed figure 9 and ninety in words before the actual amount and thereby managed to embezzled amount of rupees 90 lacks, which has drawn by him from the government treasury fraudulently. As per the statement of prosecution witnesses material evidence collected so far and report of expert, the offence mentioned above was proved against him, for which charge sheet has been filed in the competent court of law for judicial determination.
