| Lt Gen Raj Kumar Karwal assumes Command of 16 corps | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 31 Lieutenant General Raj Kumar Karwal, SM, VSM has assumed command of the 16 Corps. An alumnus of National Defence Academy, he was commissioned into the RAJPUT Regiment in December 1970. A graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, he has done all important courses including the Higher Command Course. He is also accredited with higher qualifications, Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights Management and MBA (HRM) from IGNOU, New Delhi. The General has wide ranging experience of various high profile command, staff and instructional appointments. He commanded his Unit and Rashtriya Rifles Sector in intense Counter Terrorist Operational Area. While commanding the unit and sector the General was awarded Sena Medal and Bar to Sena Medal for his gallantry. The General has commanded a RAPID Infantry Division in a strike Corps. On staff, he served a Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade, Director Infantry at Army Headquarters and ADG (B) at Headquarters Directorate General National Cadets Corps besides having raised the Human Rights Cell in Army Headquarters, Delhi. The General has the distinction of serving as Military Advisor to Republic of Seychelles, where he was awarded Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished service. He has also served as Military Advisor in Pakistan for a period of three years. As a Young Officer, the General had participated in the Bangladesh Operations of 1971. A multifaceted personality, the General is very fond of traveling. His personal relationship with the men and juniors ensures improvement of life in station and also lays the foundation of modern ventures. |
