| Natrang holds workshop on Kashmiri theatre | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 31 An exclusive theatre training programme for Kashmiri migrants was inaugurated by reputed theatre personalities of the sate, Balwant Thakur and Motilal Kemmu here today. While addressing a press conference here today Balwant said hosting a production oriented theatre workshop in Kashmiri language is a welcome step. He further said that the work of Natrang was limited to Dogri and Hindi language and with the start of a production in Kashmiri Natrang has achieved new horizons spreading the network of Natrang and its out reach to other major languages of the state. On the occasion, Kemmu said that he is the first person who conducted the first ever theatre workshop in Jammu in the year 1970 and the same was inaugurated the doyen of Indian theatre Ibrahim Elkazi. So far fifty workshops have been conducted and he is also the first person to initiate training for displaced Kashmiris. He said since last three years he has been producing regular Kashmiri plays and has been providing opportunities to young theatre aspirants to learn the art of theatre. Popularly known as the revivalist of Kashmiri folk theatre, Kemmu is the most respected theatre personality of Kashmiri theatre who is credited for giving a new dimension to Bhand Pather-the folk theatre of Kashmir. |
