| Jt strategy for agri devp of JK, HP and Uttarakhand discussed | | | SOLAN (HP)| NOV 1 The hill states of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh today discussed sharing research in the field of agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry for mutual benefit. Concerned ministers and officials of the three states attended the two-day XXth regional committee meeting of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) that started at Y S Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry Nauni. Over 140 scientists of leading agricultural universities of the three states also participated in the meet. Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar stressed on urgent need to develop cost effective improved technique for small and marginal farmers of hilly areas. He said ICAR needs to monitor projects given to state agriculture universities so that techniques developed are disseminated to end users. Uttarakhand Agriculture Minister Trivander Singh Rawat said more efforts should be made for conservation of biodiversity available in hill states. Mangala Rai, Director General of ICAR said policy guidelines for research and extension would be framed for hilly states.The ICAR DG said post-harvest management was the core issue and it needs to be tackled effectively so that more employment could be generated. Jagmohan Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Y S Parmar University, said the institution has played a key role in the development of fruit, vegetable and flower varities for the state and now more thrust would be given for eco-friendly and low cost technology. The ICAR DG presented 'kufri himsona' and 'kufri girdhari' varities of potatoes developed recently by Central Potato Research Institute in the state. |
