| J&K women hold to a draw Punjab | | | Early Times Reporter JAMMU | Nov 1 Playing full mandatory over patiently Abida Nazir Khan and Henan Maqbool today saved the hosts Jammu and Kashmir from a possible defeat by holding the star studded side of Punjab to a draw in the two-day match of the North Zone Senior Women’s Cricket Tournament played at MA Stadium, here. Amidst close fielders and a calculated bowling attack both Abida and Henan controlled their nerves and faced 25 and 23 deliveries respectively no matter they could not open their account. When the stumps were drawn, J&K were playing at 93 for seven in 80 overs in reply to visitors’ 235 for five declared. Skipper Roopali Slathia and Meenu also played a key role in making it a draw game against the defending North Zone Champions Punjab by staying at the wicket for long. While Meenu faced 164 delivers to make 21 runs, Roopali contributed 18 off 93 balls. Ankita Jalla remained the top scorer with 26 runs including five hits to the fence before she was bowled by Rajwinder Kour. Opener Satika Sharma also played well and contributed 18 runs to the total. Earlier, Punjab resumed their innings from overnight score of 144 for one and added quick runs to their total with an intention to give J&K enough time to play for three full sessions. Punjab played just for 65 minutes adding 82 more runs to their overnight score of 144 in 15 over and declared their innings giving the hosts a difficult target of 235 for five in 49 overs. Anureet Kour was just two runs away from completing her century when Sayama Rashid trapped her leg before the wicket at 98. Anureet was playing confidently and added 17 runs to her overnight total of 81 hitting ten boundaries. In a mood to add quick runs to the total Punjab lost easy wickets. Finding the wicket pace friendly, J&K used only three bowlers in the morning session. Meenua Slathia took one more wicket to make it two for 74 in 18 overs. However, Sayama was most successful with two for 59 in 13 overs. Ravinder Kour bowled a single over which cost her 10 runs. It may be recalled that J&K women had held Delhi to a draw in similar manners in their previous game played at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Srinagar. Now, J&K will be playing the one-dayer against Punjab tomorrow at the same venue. |
