| Former IGP’s wife, in-laws among four killed in accident | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 1 Wife of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) PK Gupta and his in-laws were among four persons killed on the spot near Chichi Mata when they were on way to Samba from Jammu. Gupta’s wife Neelam, her mother Sushila Gupta, father Niranjan Gupta and driver Anil Kumar were killed in the accident when the Maruti van (JK02M 0615) they were traveling in was hit by a bus near Chich Mata. One identified as Yash Pal was reported injured in the accident. Local residents who were witness to the accident informed the police. A police team from the near by police post Supwal led by Sanjeev Chib rushed to the spot and took all the persons to hospital where doctors declared the four as brought dead while the injured was admitted in hospital for treatment where his condition was later stated to be out of danger. Police believes that the reason behind the accident was negligence of the driver of the van while he was trying to overtake a bus as another bus hit the vehicle in which the van got crushed resulting into the death of the four and injury to one. According to an eyewitness, the collision was very impact full in which the van got totally damaged. The police informed the family members of the deceased and later the family members took the bodies with them after postmortem, for last rites. Sources said the driver of the bus immediately fled from the spot after the accident. Police has registered a case in this regard and started investigating the matter. Gupta retired from the post of IG Crime and Railways few years back. Meanwhile, Police has also launched a hunt to arrest the driver of the bus. |
