| Secessionists, religious fanatics should draw lesson from explosive situation in theocratic militancy ruled Pakistan | | | Early Times Special Correspondent Jammu | Nov 1 The warning served by former Pak premier and Chairman of Pakistan People Party (PPP), Benazir Bhutto, in an interview to Hello magazine that if her country "implodes" it will have far reaching repercussions for the world community, betrays her concern over the alarming situation developing in Pakistan, which has the potential to have volcanic outburst, not only engulfing Pakistan and its neighbouring countries, but to have its negative fallout on the world as a whole. Pakistan, today, is sitting on the keg powder which can burst into explosion any time. The warning served earlier by some analysts and think tanks in USA as well as the general impression in the western countries about Pakistan presently being the most dangerous part in the world, even more dangerous than Iraq. In the light of this highly disturbed law and order situation and political stability in Pakistan some western countries have issued advisories to its citizens to don't include Pakistan in their itinerary of foreign tours, speak the same thing Besides the holocaust and total lawlessness in North West frontier province of Pakistan, where the writ of the federal government of Pakistan as well as of the provincial government does not run and where Al-Qaeda and Taliban outfits of militants are in virtual control of the situation, the other parts of the country are also in worst turmoil. The alarming situation prevailing in the sindh province as well as in Punjab including the capital city of Islamabad and garrison city of Rawalpindi, which were subject to suicide attack near the official residence of Pak President Parvez Musharraf, killing seven people only two days earlier, coupled with the powerful explosions in Karachi on the occasion of the visit of Benazir Bhutto there, targeting her motorcade in which about 150 people were killed and other terrorist strikes taking place every other day are grim reminder of the situation prevailing in that country. This should serve a lesson for all the countries who pursue terrorism as their state policy and export militancy to other countries, mainly to those in their neighbourhood, that one day this will recoil on them. Besides, the prevailing atmosphere of chaos in Pakistan should also be an eye opener for the secessionists in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the religious fanatic who stand for establishing Islamic sovereign state in Kashmir that it is the democracy and secularism which alone sustain and stand the test of time in the present day world. Religious fanaticism and totalitarian trends and concept ultimately proves dangerous for the society which adopts the same. In contract to Pakistan India which has followed democratic and secular traditions and its state policy, has made tremendous progress during these 60 years, whereas Pakistan which came into being on the same day India got independence from British rule, has lacked behind in almost all the fields. Pakistan today is almost a failed state, notorious more for Jehadi culture prevailing there, with terrorist training camps operating in the land, while India has earned the distinction to be on the march towards development, becoming a world power to be reckoned with. In this regard the observation by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South and South East Asia James Clad that for United States India matters more and Pakistan has no comparison to the same, is significant. Stating that broad based partnership between India and America are critical and more important compared to Pakistan, as New Delhi is growing as a potential power with global influence, James Clad has told online journalist during a conference call from the Pantagon that that the US-India strategic potential is very very profound. Against the highly prestigious position achieved by India, Pakistan is viewed as a country still striving to keep itself going on and survive, with its very existence under threat. Mrs. Bhutto has only confirmed and endorsed this perception and evaluation of Pakistan in the international fora. According to the World Public Opinion-ORG poll conducted last month, before a suicide bombing in Karachi killed 150 people, Islamabad's fight against Islamic militants has quite a weak support among Pakistanis, who also strongly opposed to allowing outside forces to fight Al-Qaeda and Taliban. The poll also shows scant support for President Parvez Musharraf, a key ally of the United States. Benazir Bhutto, who on the eve of her return to the country after 8 years of self exile had stated at London that if she has the choice she would allow United States to capture of kill Osma-bin-Laden as well as take head on the Al-Qaeda and Taliban terrorist, presently having safe sanctuary in North Western part of Pakistan, has also earned the wrath of Islamic jehadis in that country. Under the circumstances the US plan of power sharing in Pakistan between President Parvez Musharraf and PPP Chief Benazir Bhutto has little chance to succeed and be acceptable to the people at large in that country. The situation is so fluid and alarming in Pakistan that only God can safe the country from disaster of civil war or turmoil in any other form. Besides the Islamic fundamentalists and secessionists in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country all religious fanatics including among Hindus, who dream of creating a theocratic Hindu state in India should draw a lesson from this comparative situation prevailing in democratic secular India and Islamic fundamentalist state of Pakistan, where democratic setup has been an occasional comic interlude in the general drama of pain. |
